Description

This barn, located about 30 yards south-west of Lower House Farmhouse, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of handmade brick set on a sandstone rubble base and features a plain tiled roof. The barn has seven bays that are aligned east to west, with wagon bays that include opposed cart entries in the second, fourth, and sixth bays. There are header ventilation courses throughout the structure. The roof is supported by collar and tie-beam trusses that have raking struts at the lower corners, along with two tiers of trenched purlins.
