Description

The fountain in the gardens at Parkfield is a mid-19th century structure made of ashlar and cast iron. It features a circular basin with a moulded coping that is approximately 10 feet in diameter. Within this basin is an octagonal ashlar plinth that supports the cast iron fountain. The fountain has a polygonal foot, stem, and basin, all decorated with designs of weeds and water-lilies. At the center of the basin, there is a swan with outstretched wings and its head raised, holding the fountain-head in its beak. A putto is seated on the back of the swan, with its arms around the swan's neck, clutching two flowers. This fountain is one of twelve such fountains that were cast at Coalbrookdale in the 19th century.
