4/70 Fountain in gardens at Parkfield

GV II

Fountain. Mid-C19. Ashlar and cast iron. Circular basin with moulded coping of approx 10 feet diameter within which is octagonal ashlar plinth on which cast iron fountain stands. Polygonal foot, stem and basin decorated with weed and water-lilies. At centre of basin is swan with outstretched wings and head raised holding fountain-head in beak. Putto seated on back of swan, arms around its neck clutching two flowers. One of 12 such fountains cast at Coalbrookdale in C19.
