Description
The Old Forge is a cottage that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th century and extensions added in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill, brick refacing, and replacement walling, topped with a concrete tiled roof and large external chimney stacks at both gable ends. The building consists of two framed bays and is single storey with an attic. The north gable end displays exposed framing, which may include a cruck frame, along with collar and raking struts. The front elevation has irregular fenestration, featuring two ground floor casement windows with cambered heads and a 20th-century timber door at the right end. There is also an attic light in the north gable end.
Adjoining the north gable end is a 19th-century single storey, single celled former dairy wing, which has a dentilled eaves cornice, a casement window on the front elevation, and a rear outshut. Additionally, there are 20th-century extensions to the south gable end and at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
