Description
These are a group of three almshouses, later converted into houses, dating from the late 19th century. They are constructed of brick, with a pebble-dashed finish, and have a tiled gambrel roof. The rear roof slope is at a lower level. The south gable end features bargeboards and a finial. There are four brick chimneys along the ridge, each with oversailing cap courses.
The buildings are single-storey with an attic, and feature dormers. A dentilled eaves cornice runs around the building. Each cottage has a symmetrical front elevation, featuring a multi-paned casement window, an oriel window on moulded brackets, two gabled dormers with bargeboards and finials, and a central doorway. Tiled weathering runs between the floor levels and projects above the doorways to form lean-to porches supported by timber uprights. Number 1 has a glazed porch with a half-glazed door, while numbers 2 and 3 have 20th-century timber doors.
The south gable has decorative timber framing at attic level, and the division between the front and rear roof pitches is accentuated by the window arrangement. To the left is an attic light, and to the right is a two-storey canted bay with a planted timber diaper panel between the storeys. A rear wing projects beyond the south gable end, incorporating a gabled dormer into the design of the south elevation. The interiors have not been inspected.
