Description

This is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with additions from the 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The construction is a combination of timber framing with painted brick infill and brickwork; the roof is tiled, featuring scalloped bargeboards and a brick ridge stack to the left of the center, and another brick stack on the front right roof slope. The cottage has two framed bays, a central through-passage, and a brick unit to the left. It is a single-story building with an attic, which includes dormers. The timber framing is square, with three panels from sill to wall-plate, and long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof structure reveals a queen strut truss with double collar and ‘V’-struts at the apex in the right gable end. The front elevation has an irregular arrangement of windows; two ground floor casements are present, along with a gabled dormer featuring scalloped bargeboards and a casement above a central doorway with a gabled roof. A wrought iron porch provides access to a planked and battened 20th-century door, accompanied by a narrow, rectangular side light. Inside, the cottage features trenched purlins and retains a small planked door to the left of the through-passage. The main beams exhibit stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Modern extensions have been added to the rear of the property.
