Description

This dovecote, located about 75 yards southeast of Home Farmhouse, likely dates from the mid-18th century. It features a combination of sandstone rubble with brick dressings and timber framing with brick infill, topped by a plain tiled roof. The dovecote has a square plan, with the lower section having walls that are approximately two feet thick. There are two rows of timber-framed panels beneath the eaves, supported by straight braces at the lower corners and featuring plank weathering to the mid-rail. The east elevation includes a semi-circular headed archway, and there is also a blocked opening on the south elevation. The pyramidal roof retains the remains of a square timber lantern, which has a pyramidal roof and a finial. Inside, the walls are rendered, and there are about 200 nesting boxes in the rubble section.
