Description
This is an 18th-century dovecote located about 30 yards southeast of Great House Farmhouse. It is built of handmade red brick with some blue brick dressings and features a pyramidal stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses, topped with a timber lantern at the apex. The dovecote has a square plan and two levels.
On the northwest front elevation, the openings all have cambered heads with decorative alternate blue brick headers. The facade consists of three bays, with the central bay wider than the outer bays. There are two rectangular windows with wooden bars on the ground floor, three blind windows above on the upper level, and a central doorway with a chamfered frame and a ledged and battened door fitted with strap hinges. A doorway on the northeast side provides access to the upper floor due to the change in ground level.
Inside, there are approximately 450 nesting boxes, each featuring a pointed arched entry hole.
