Description
The Round House is a lodge to Stanford Court, now functioning as a house. It was likely built in the late 18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-20th century. The structure is made of brick with ashlar dressings and features a plain tiled roof. It has an octagonal plan and an external chimney with two octagonal shafts on the south side. The building stands two storeys high, with an ashlar plinth, a ground floor sill string, and a moulded cornice. The ground floor includes cross-casement windows on the north and west elevations, while the first floor has 2-light casements on the north, east, and west elevations. The main entrance is located on the east elevation and features a moulded cornice and a half-glazed door. Inside, there is a winder staircase on the north-west side. A mid-20th century flat-roofed addition encloses the external chimney on the south side and connects the building to a large single-storey extension from the same period. These 20th-century additions are not included in the listing.
