Description

Tuscany House is a mid-18th century building that was once divided into three dwellings and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century, with restoration work completed in the late 20th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and brick, featuring a plain tiled roof with a parapet at the east gable end and a hipped west end, which includes a tall stack, as well as a large stack on the rear north roof pitch. The house has a rectangular three-bay plan and stands two storeys high with an attic that includes dormers. There is a two-course band between the main storeys at the east end, and the fenestration is irregular.

On the south entrance elevation, the ground floor has a three-light casement and a blocked opening with a cambered head. The first floor features two two-light casements, along with two gabled dormers that also have two-light casements. The entrance, located to the left of centre, is accessed through a lean-to porch with a slate roof supported by a timber post, leading to a half-glazed door with a cambered head. To the right, there is a lean-to with a catslide roof that has two doors at the front and a three-light casement in the angle with the main part of the building. Additionally, there is another lean-to with a catslide roof at the west end, which includes a door with a cambered head on its south front elevation. An attic light is present at the east gable end. It is noted that the building was used as a school house until the mid-19th century, and restoration work was ongoing at the time of the survey in April 1985.
