Description
The granary and attached garden walls, located south-east of The Shrubbery, date from the mid-18th century. The structure is built of brick and features a plain tiled roof with parapets at the gable ends. It has a rectangular three-bay plan that is aligned north-west to south-east and consists of two levels. Both levels have blocked ventilation slits. The south-west elevation includes a three-light and a two-light window at ground floor level, while the north-east elevation has 20th-century double doors and two loft doors. The north-west gable end features a door and an attic light above, with diaper ventilation patterns in the gable apex. There is a lean-to addition at the south-east gable end that has double doors facing the north-east.
Three garden walls adjoin the granary. The longest wall extends south-east for about 55 yards and then returns to the south-west for about 10 yards. It stands approximately 10 feet high and has square piers with moulded stone capping at each end and at the corner, enclosing the garden east of the main south elevation of The Shrubbery. The shortest wall runs north-west for about 12 yards and is about 7 feet high. The third wall runs west of the granary for about 25 yards, adjoining the south-east corner of The Shrubbery, and stands about 12 feet high, featuring a doorway with a cambered head.
