Description
The dovecote, located 130 meters west of Chapel Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plaster, featuring wattle and daub infill. The roof is pyramid-shaped and covered with plain tiles. The dovecote has an octagonal plan and includes louvred windows on two opposite sides beneath the eaves. A lead-clad turret has collapsed, and there is a plank door on the east side. Inside, the walls are lined with unfired brick in stretcher bond, with every fourth course made of fired red brick that projects slightly to support nesting boxes, which have all been removed. Much of the lower internal walling has been rebuilt using 19th and 20th-century brick. The oak-framed roof is notable, featuring principal rafters at the angles and tenoned purlins. At the time of the survey, the dovecote was in poor condition and partly unroofed.
