Description

Mayhews Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating back to the early 16th century, with extensions added around 1550-1570. It is situated on Brown Street, near Dagworth. The building is two storeys high and constructed with timber framing and plaster. It has a thatched roof, hipped at the right-hand end. The main axial chimney was rebuilt in the mid-20th century using red brick, while red brick chimneys from the 19th century are located at the left and right ends. Modern small-pane casement windows are present. Two modern gabled porches with framed and boarded doors have been added to the entrance.

The building is a complex 16th-century structure composed of two equal blocks. The left block has a coupled-rafter roof and contains a smoke bay at the far left. A section of the original partition wall remains, with blackened plaster indicating its former use. Floor joists, thought to be a later addition of the late 16th century, are chamfered. The block to the right of the main chimney features heavy timber framing, unchamfered floor joists, reversed arch windbracing, close studding, and a queen post roof with jowled and arch braced posts.
