Description

Brown’s Place Farmhouse is a circa 1600 farmhouse located in Old Newton, near With Dagworth. It is a two-story building with attics, originally constructed with a two-cell lobby-entrance plan. The house is timber-framed and plastered, with a slated roof that was formerly thatched. A prominent axial chimney dating to the early 17th century is constructed of red brick and features a sawtooth shaft. The windows are mid-19th century small-pane sashes. The main entrance has a 19th-century six-panelled door. A lower, slated extension was added in the 19th century projecting forward to the left of the entrance. The timber framing is un-moulded and the roof is a clasped purlin roof. The interior features back-to-back open fireplaces.
