Description
Gipping Lone is a house built in two stages, with a lower three-cell range believed to date from the late 15th century and an additional range added around 1600, forming an L-plan that includes hall and parlour cells. The house has two storeys and is constructed with timber framing and plaster. The south gable tiebeam, which oversails, is well-carved and features the Tyrell coat of arms. The studding of the gable above has been exposed. The roof is covered with concrete plain tiles.
A notable feature is the axial chimney, dating from around 1600, made of red brick with four circular shafts that have moulded bases. The shafts are constructed from terracotta tiles with various impressed patterns. Early 20th-century exterior remodelling includes casements with leaded lights, many of which are oriel windows with ovolo-moulded cills, mullions, and transoms in the early 17th-century style, some of which may be original.
In the re-entrant angle between the wings, there is a flat-roofed early 20th-century entrance porch with a leaded roof and a boarded door. Inside, the house features moulded stone fireplaces, oak wainscotting, and overmantels from around 1600. It was formerly known as the Old Vicarage.
