Description

This building is a barn and cowhouse, dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed of brick on a sandstone base, featuring sandstone dressings, and has a fishscale-tiled roof with gable end parapets that include sandstone coping and kneelers. The structure has six bays aligned north to south, with a wagon bay located in the fourth bay from the north end. This wagon bay has opposed cart entries with a cambered head on the east side and an altered 20th-century opening on the west side. There are header ventilation courses and sandstone quoins at the north end.

The east elevation has two openings, one of which is blocked and has an inserted door, both featuring cambered heads and moulded keyblocks, along with a two-light window. The north end includes a loft door with a cambered head and moulded keyblock, along with a blocked opening below it. The cowhouse, which adjoins to the northeast, has a hipped roof and consists of roughly four bays. Its south elevation has three windows with cambered heads and two loft openings, while the north elevation features four doors with cambered heads. Despite some later alterations, this barn is noteworthy for its unusual and high-quality sandstone detailing.
