Description
Island House is a house dating from the mid- to late 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of painted brick with plain tile roofs, parapets to the gable ends, and gable-end and one ridge stack. The house is two storeys and has an attic. The original part of the house has three bays, with a later single-bay section adjoining the left gable end. The original part features a three-course band between the main storeys and a cogged eaves cornice above. The three original bays have ground and first-floor three-light casement windows with cambered heads, apart from the central ground-floor window, which breaks through the three-course band. The main entrance, between the left and central bays, has an open pediment and a moulded architrave, leading to a six-panelled door. A Birmingham fire insurance mark is visible in the upper left corner. An attic light is located in the right gable end. The later single-bay section has a ground and first floor 16-pane sash window with moulded architraves and a cambered head to the ground floor window. A reset round-headed sandstone relief panel depicting St Christopher is set into the left gable end. The interior has not been inspected. A lean-to outbuilding stands at the right gable end, featuring a small rectangular opening. Single-storey wings were added to the rear in the 19th century.
