Description
Bellem Cottage is a house that has been divided into tenements. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The structure is timber-framed with rendered and painted brick infill, as well as some replacement walling. It has a slate and tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays aligned north to south, featuring a large chimney at the junction of the north and central bays, along with another chimney at the rear of the south bay. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The east front elevation has a mix of 3-light and 2-light 19th-century casements, along with a 19th-century bay window on the ground floor. There are two gabled dormers, each with 3-light casements. The main entrance, located in the left bay, has a cambered head and a ledged and battened door. Attic lights are present at the gable ends. Inside, the roof and much of the rear and internal framing remain intact, and there are back-to-back fireplaces. At the rear, there are two single-bay wings, one from the 17th century and the other likely from the 19th century.
