Description
FORD CP FORD SO 55 Illf 2/58 Barn and cowhouse about 30 yards south east of Ford Farmhouse GV II Barn and cowhouse. Probably mid-C18. Part sandstone rubble, part timber-framed and weatherboarded with plain tiled roofs, hipped at north end. Barn of seven bays aligned north/south, wagon bays with opposed cart entries and double doors in bays 3 and 6 from south end. Lower part of walls of stone with ventilation slits. Two loft openings in east elevation. Interior: framing of long rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate with some long straight braces across the lower corners, six intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts across the lower angles and two tiers of trenched purlins. Cowhouse adjoins north gable end and is slightly lower in height. Six bays. Two levels. Lower part of walls of stone with triangular ventilation openings. East elevation has two doors and two loft openings. North end bay is open at lower level for cart storage. Interior: similar wall-framing to barn with some braces across upper corners. Collar and tie-beam trusses with two tiers of trenched purlins. There is a lean-to addition on timber posts at the north end. Included for group value.
