Description
Wharton Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, constructed of rubble with a timber-frame and plaster finish. It features a composite tile roof and has a brick and roughcast ridge stack on a stone base, along with a brick stack at the rear. The cottage is two storeys high and has a two-window range, with 2-light casements that include lattice leaded lights. The entrance is located to the right and features a 20th-century porch with an earlier plank door and side-lights, which contains a 20th-century glazed door in its original frame. There are also two mullion windows with metal casements and lattice-leaded lights.
On the left side, the cottage has a timber-frame and plaster finish with a lattice-braced gable above the rubble, and 20th-century casements. There is an entrance in a rubble lean-to at the rear, which has a plank door in an oak frame, sheltered by a simple wood hood. The right side of the cottage also features timber-frame and plaster with a lattice-braced gable over roughcast, a 20th-century leaded casement, an 18th-century casement above a 20th-century cross-window, and a 20th-century casement leading to the lean-to.
Inside, the cottage has a 17th-century deep chamfered ceiling-frame and a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a turned newel.
