Description

Church House is a house, now converted to flats, dating from the mid-18th century. It was refronted around 1800, with further alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick, some of which is pebbledashed, with plain and machine-tile roofs. Parts of the roof are hipped, and have ogee-arched parapets at the front gable ends. It has large brick stacks, primarily dating from the mid-19th century. The house has three storeys and a cellar, with a dentilled eaves cornice. The architectural style is Gothick.

The east front has a 1:3:1 gabled bay arrangement. The central bay projects forward, and the upper floors are half a storey higher than those of the flanking bays. All windows have hood moulds with returns. First-floor windows have four-centred heads and Y-tracery. Second-floor windows are two-light casements. The central bay features two windows similar to those on the first floor, flanking what was formerly the main entrance. This entrance has a four-centred head, glazed double doors, and a Y-traceried fanlight. Additions have been made to the ground floor of the flanking bays, with flat roofs concealed behind parapets. On the left, an opening with a four-centred head has been created, containing an inserted 20th-century bay window. The right-hand addition incorporates a pair of cross-casements with pointed upper lights. A blind quatrefoil is located in the apex of the central gable, and blind trefoils are in the apex of the smaller flanking gables. The interior has not been inspected. The main entrance is now at the rear. A large mid-19th-century addition extends to the rear left of the property.
