Description
This building is a barn and stables located about 20 yards west of Hurst Farmhouse. It was constructed in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The structure is made of brick and has a plain tiled roof. It consists of six bays arranged in a north-east/south-west orientation. At the south-west end, there is a three-bay barn featuring a central wagon bay with opposing cart entries and header ventilation courses.
The main south-east elevation includes a lean-to with a catslide roof on the south-west bay and the two north-easternmost bays. Both lean-to additions have stable doors, and there are two windows in the north-eastern addition. Additionally, there are two 20th-century garage doors in the fourth bay from the south-west end. A loft opening with a cambered head is present at the south-west end. Inside, the barn has intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts, and there are 20th-century alterations at the north-east end. The barn and stables enclose the north side of the former farmyard and face the main approach to Hurst Farmhouse. This building is included for its group value.
