6/2 Barn and stables about 10 yards south-east of Bell Inn

GV II

Barn and stables. C18 with mid-C19 alterations. Brick with machine-tiled roofs. Five bays aligned north/south; central wagon bay with opposed cart entries, now blocked to west. Header ventilation courses and diaper ventila- tion patterns at gable ends. Interior: intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts; two tiers of trenched purlins. Small two-level wings at north end and to north-west; north one has a 2-light window and a loft opening at its gable end and a door in the west side; all have cambered heads; north-west wing has a door with a transom light and cambered head and a loft door in its gable end. To right of this wing is a C19 lean-to stable addition with two 3-light C19 windows and two 3-light C20 windows, a door and a stable door in its west elevation; all openings have cambered heads. This large barn is prominently situated close to the Bell Inn (qv). Included for group value.
