Description
This building is a barn and stables located about 20 yards west of Woodhall Grange. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The structure is built of brick and features machine-tiled roofs, forming an L-shape. The barn consists of three bays aligned north to south, with a central wagon bay and opposing cart entries. It has header ventilation courses, diaper ventilation patterns at the ends, and a cogged eaves cornice.
Inside, the roof is supported by intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. The stable is attached to the southeast and has two levels with three bays. The north elevation features two 6-pane windows and a rectangular light. On the ground floor, there is a 2-light casement window, a loft opening to the upper level, and two stable doors with cambered heads. Additionally, there is a small single-storey hipped-roofed 19th-century addition at the north end of the barn, which includes a window and a door with basket-arched heads on its east elevation. The barn and stables are positioned close to Woodhall Grange and help enclose the farmyard to the west and south. They are included for their group value.
