SANDWELL MB BIRMINGHAM CANAL Birmingham Level, Tipton Towpath bridge over entrance to canal basin (approx l50m west of Watery Lane)

Towpath bridge. Mid-C19. Cast iron with brick abutments which have some sandstone dressings. Single shallow segmental arch. Sides are a single casting pierced to form lattice pattern of saltire crosses. Spans the entrance to a boat yard which was formerly Tipton railway interchange basin, one of 26 such transhipment depots constructed on the Birmingham Canal from the 1850's onwards.
