Description
The drinking fountain canopy in Victoria Park is a late 19th-century structure made of cast iron. It features an octagonal plan supported by decorated round columns with foliated capitals. Each side of the upper part has a multi-cusped round arch adorned with openwork foliage decoration. Above each arch, there is a circle with a ropework border that contains a cartouche depicting a stork. The border is inscribed with the words "KEEP THE PAVEMENT DRY". On two sides, there is an inscription, now partly illegible, that reads: "Presented to the inhabitants of Tipton by Mr & Mrs C M Waring in commemoration of their golden wedding ... 190-". The canopy is topped with a dome featuring openwork decoration between the ribs. A similar canopy can be found in Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich.
