Description

Highfields is a building that likely dates from the 1830s and originally comprised four houses, which are now used as offices. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features hipped slate roofs. The structure includes a three-storey central block with five bays, flanked by lower two-storey wings that each have three bays.

Most of the windows are sash style with glazing bars, although the windows in the second and fourth bays of the main block, located above the entrances, are narrower than the others. The third and fifth bays on the ground floor are bowed and currently have overhanging 20th-century felt roofs. The left-hand bow features a tripartite sash window with pilasters acting as mullions, while the right-hand bow has three windows with a pediment above the central one. The second floor windows of the main block are casement style.

The doors in the second and fourth bays are adorned with Tuscan porches, each featuring a reeded frieze with decorative paterae. The three lower bays on the left are separated by pilaster strips, and the ground floor windows are framed with architraves. The three right-hand bays are similar but are separated by pilasters and have sash windows on the ground floor, with the left-hand bay having wider windows. The building has chimneys located at the center and on the end walls of the main block, positioned between the first and second bays on the left and between the second and third bays on the right.
