Description
The Law Courts, built in 1890 by Wood and Kendrick, are located on Lombard Street West in West Bromwich. This two-storey building with an attic is constructed of brick, featuring sandstone and terra cotta dressings, and has a slate roof. The façade consists of five bays, with the central and outer bays slightly projecting forward. The ground floor windows are paired and separated by central sandstone pilasters. Above these windows is a sandstone frieze and a dentilled terra cotta cornice. A wide entrance to a passageway is located in the right-hand bay. On the first floor, the outer bays have tripartite windows flanked by brick pilasters, while the other windows feature round heads with keystones and impost blocks. The central window is flanked by engaged Composite columns. Above the cornice, there is a parapet with finials and a balustrade above the second and fourth bays. The central bay is topped with a gable that has two chimneys rising above a cornice, flanking a pediment. Dormers with 4-light timber mullioned windows under leaded ogee roofs are situated above the outer bays.
