Description

Lodge Estate Primary School is a school built in 1903, constructed from red brick and terra cotta with a tiled roof. It is a single-storey building featuring a central tower flanked by gabled projections. On either side, there are six-bay links leading to the projecting end gables. The outer gables and the right-hand central gable feature triple windows with elliptical terra cotta heads. All gables are adorned with intricate terra cotta decorations, including cornices, copings, and finials. The windows are fitted with timber mullions and transoms. The outer pairs of windows in each link have segmental heads decorated with egg-and-dart motifs, while the central pairs of windows have twin gables and taller windows with elliptical heads. The gable to the west of the tower has triple windows with heads that sweep upwards in the center. At the base of the tower, there is a door surround that includes a three-light mullioned window, a pediment, and the inscription "Infants." Above this, a cartouche inscribed "Lodge Estate Schools 1903" is framed by Ionic pilasters beneath a cornice. Above, a central louvred opening is flanked by paired pilasters that extend above their capitals to a cornice. The upper stage of the tower features four louvred openings separated by engaged columns. The pyramid roof is topped with an open timber cupola that has a leaded ogee roof and a weather vane.
