Description
No. 78 Ryland Road is a semi-detached villa built around 1830. It is two stories high and has three bays, finished in stucco. The building features a plinth and a sill band at the first floor, with incised coursing on the ground floor. The shallow flat eaves of the low-pitched gable end slate roof are adorned with a bed mould, and there are red brick band corniced chimney stacks. The windows are revealed 4 x 4 pane sashes, with a 3 x 4 pane window above the central doorway, all featuring incised flat arches on the ground floor. The round-arched doorway has a lightly incised triple keystone and is flanked by thinly fluted half columns that support a plain cornice beneath a blind fanlight designed in a fanned shell pattern, with a fluted archivolt above. The door itself consists of four panels and is framed by a reeded case.
