Description

These are two houses, numbers 41 and 42 Lee Crescent, built around 1830 to 1855. They are part of a group of six houses forming a Regency-style crescent, numbers 41 to 49.

The houses are two storeys high, with a symmetrical three-bay façade. They are faced with stucco and feature thin quoin pilasters, a plinth, and shallow rustication to the ground floor around the window and door arches. There is a shallow moulded eaves band marking the junction with the gable-ended slate roof, which has stucco chimney stacks on the party walls. The ground floor windows are set within stucco panels with segmental arches, while the first floor windows are similarly treated with glazing bars intact to the sashes.

Each house has a central arched entrance recess, approached by a short flight of steps. The recess contains an inner moulded arch supported by flattened Tuscan columns with delicate fluting. The front door consists of five fielded and flush panels, set within panelled reveals and a soffit, with looped radial glazing to the fanlight. Narrow round arched tunnel passage entrances are located on either side of the paired fronts.
