Description

This is a circa 1840 two-storey Grecian villa, built of stucco, as part of the Calthorpe Estate, and similar in style to number 1 Arthur Road. The main three-bay front has a recessed wing to the left and incorporates an entrance and coach house. The front elevation features a plinth, grooved ground floor, a sill band to the first floor, and deep, flat eaves to a hipped slate roof with corniced chimneys. The windows are widely spaced glazing bar sashes, with a two-storey canted bay inserted in the late 19th century to the left. A prominent, projecting surround features a pediment and decorative scrollwork above the entrance, mirroring those at number 1, and includes panelled reveals and a soffit to the doorway, which leads up five steps. The wing has been partly modernised, now incorporating a garage. Gate piers mark the entrance to the yard, alongside the coach house.
