Description
No. 21 Portland Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It was built between 1824 and 1836 and features pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade and a Welsh slate roof, complete with a cast-iron balcony. The building has three storeys and a basement, with two windows on the first floor. The first floor is distinguished by 8-pane French windows, while the second floor has 6/6 sash windows. The ground floor includes three steps leading to a side entrance, which features a panelled door with an overlight that has glazing bars and panelled reveals. The door surround is adorned with fluted pilaster strips and a frieze. There is also an inserted bay window with casements, and the basement has casement windows as well. The first-floor balcony is decorated with an anthemion-and-heart motif. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Portland Street was laid out between 1823 and 1824.
