Description
No. 23 Coney Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 19th century and has had some alterations, including a shopfront added in the 20th century. The building is constructed from pink and grey mottled brick in Flemish bond, with a rendered rear and timber boxed eaves that conceal the roof. There is a rendered stack at the rear.
The exterior features four storeys and a two-window front. The entrance is located within the shopfront. The first-floor windows have been altered and are now single-pane sashes. The second floor has 12-pane sashes, while the third floor features unequal 9-pane sashes. All windows have painted stone sills and channelled wedge lintels. The boxed eaves are supported by paired modillions. At the rear, there are 12-pane sashes on both the second and third floors.
Inside, the staircase has shaped tread ends and stick balusters. In the front room on the first floor, the door architrave is reeded and features angle roundels.
