Description

Ebor Hall, located at the rear of Number 19 Coney Street in York, is a public building dating from around 1860. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring white brick and stone dressings, with timber guttering and brackets, and a slate roof.

The building has a riverfront with a basement and two storeys above the river wall. Its six-bay front is defined by an arcade of semicircular cogged brick arches supported by full-height pilasters with moulded brick imposts. The river wall includes a tall round-arched passage opening. The basement has squat two-light windows with transoms set in round arches of white brick. On the ground floor, there are four-pane sash windows with segmental heads, while the first floor features two-light round-headed casements with transoms. All windows have stone sills and sill bands over raised brick aprons, with raised surrounds extending beneath the sills. Bands run across the pilasters on both the ground and first floors, topped by a heavy modillion cornice on ornate paired brackets.

The rear of the building has two storeys and five bays, articulated similarly to the river side. To the left of centre, stone steps lead to a pilastered doorcase with a moulded impost band beneath a blocked fanlight and a triple keyed segmental arch. The double doors are made of raised and fielded panelling. Other ground floor openings are boarded, with one at right of centre featuring a segment-headed overlight. On the first floor, two bays on the left are blind, while three bays on the right have round-headed windows similar to those on the river front, with comparable detailing. The interior has not been inspected.
