Description
The gate pier, wall, and piers located to the north of Edstone Lodge were built in the early 19th century. The ball finials are believed to be replacements from the 20th century. Constructed from sandstone ashlar, the gate pier is accompanied by a stretch of balustraded wall that extends approximately 12 meters to the north, followed by another pier. There is a further stretch of curved coped wall that measures about 4 meters, leading to an end pier. The wall stands approximately 1.5 meters high and features a balustrade with bulbous balusters on a shaped plinth and cambered copings. The piers are similar, each having an ovolo-moulded plinth and a square shaft topped with a cornice, while the gate pier has an additional plinth topped with a ball finial. This structure originally served as the entrance to the former Edstone Hall, which has since been demolished. It is part of a group with the gate pier, wall, and pier to the south of Edstone Lodge and Edstone Lodge itself.
