Description
The aqueduct on the Stratford-on-Avon Canal was built between 1812 and 1816, with some alterations and repairs made in the late 19th century. It features piers made of grey brick in English bond, along with stone and brick abutments, and some sections of late 19th-century engineering brick. The structure includes wrought-iron girders and a cast-iron trough with railings. There are fourteen tapering piers, which have narrow sides that have been refaced in engineering brick. The abutments are partly constructed of engineering brick, and each span has two openwork girders. Notably, the trough has a tow path at its base instead of being at water level, and railings are present only on the tow path side. This aqueduct carries the Stratford-on-Avon Canal, and part of it is located in the parish of Wootton Wawen.
