Description

Redlands Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse with a 18th-century wing at the rear. It is timber framed, featuring a cross wing with close studding and square framing, along with lath and plaster, whitewashed brick, and roughcast infill. The main range is roughcast, while the rear wing is made of brick with a brick dentil cornice. The building has a 20th-century tile roof and brick stacks. It is designed in an L-shape, with a cross wing to the left and a wing at the rear. The main range has one storey and an attic, while the wings are two-storey, with a three-window range. The entrance in the main range features a 19th-century four-panelled door and a 20th-century open porch. There are 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and two gabled half-dormers. The cross wing displays exposed square framing and jowled posts, with a ground floor window only. The left return side has close studding on the ground floor and large framing with tension braces forming a zig-zag pattern, along with a brick external stack. The rear side is similar but features curved braces and jowled posts, with whitewashed brick infill. The right return side has a two-window range brick wing with casements under brick segmental arches, a large external stack with fire windows, and a single dormer. Inside, there is exposed framing, broad-chamfered ceiling beams, a room with cross beams, a disused open fireplace, and flagstone floors. It also contains a 16th-century depressed-ogee doorway, old four-panelled doors with H-hinges, and old plank doors. The farmhouse forms a group with the granary and shelter shed nearby.
