Description
This cottage, located approximately 20 meters east of The Garden House in Honington, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with some blocks of ironstone and features a thatched roof with brick end stacks. The building is a single storey plus attic and has a two-window range with a two-unit plan.
The central entrance includes a moulded wood door-frame, a plank door, and a continuous wood lintel. To the right of the entrance is a 3-light wood-mullioned window, and to the left is another 3-light wood-mullioned window, both with wood lintels. The ground floor windows are fitted with wrought-iron casement fasteners and single glazing bars. There are two half-dormers, each with 2-light wood-mullioned windows that have wrought-iron catches and fasteners, and lead cames. Notably, the window to the right contains panes of early glass.
Inside, the cottage is said to feature an inglenook fireplace, beams, and an original staircase. Historically, this building was part of the Honington Hall Estate and served as the groom's cottage.
