Description

This is a two-storey building in Shipston on Stour Market Place, originally built as two shops, possibly formerly houses, and dated 1726. The building is constructed of limestone rubble, now rendered, with a 20th-century tile roof. It has a three-window front. The left-hand portion, Morrice and Simpson, has a 20th-century glazed door in the centre and a 20th-century shop front extending across the ground floor. To the right, P. Checketts has a 20th-century part-glazed door and a 20th-century shop front with a shallow hood supported on consoles. The first floor has three 20th-century two-light casement windows. There are two 20th-century dormers in the attic. A datestone, bearing a shield-shaped incision and the inscription 'B.WA 1726', is located centrally on the left-hand side of the building. The interior of Morrice and Simpson’s portion includes a chamfered spine beam.
