Description

The Cottage of Content Public House is a 17th-century building located on Welford Road in Bidford-on-Avon. The front of the building features brick that has replaced the original timber frame, while the right section is made of coursed stone and is whitewashed. The left side has tension brace framing with whitewashed brick infill above the coursed lias. The building has an old tiled roof with a brick chimney on the right and an internal stack at the rear. It is L-shaped, possibly originally a single-ended hall house, with a cross wing on the left that is flush with the front. The structure has one storey and an attic, with the cross wing being slightly taller. There is one window and a small window between the floors, along with three ground floor windows. A late 20th-century door and porch are present, as well as 19th and 20th-century casements under segmental and cambered arches. At the rear, there is a timber-framed gable on the cross wing and a lower later range made of lias attached. Inside, notable features include a broad chamfered ceiling beam and an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
