Description
The Market Garden is a house that was formerly divided into two residences. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building features whitewashed stone and a timber square-framed cross wing on the right, which includes some bracing and plastered infill. The roof is covered with late 20th-century tiles and has brick chimneys, including an internal and ridge chimney, as well as an external stack on the right return side. The structure is in an L-plan and consists of one storey and an attic, with a brick gabled dormer and a mid-20th-century flat-roofed dormer; the cross wing is taller than the main section.
The front has a three-window range, with a 19th-century plank door set under a segmental arch, and a four-panelled half-glazed door with an 18th-century tile hood in the cross wing. There are also 20th-century metal casements, one featuring a wood lintel and another positioned under a segmental arch. The side and rear of the cross wing display exposed small framing. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there is a small timber-framed barn attached to the rear, which has been significantly altered and is connected by a low block that is reputed to have been a forge.
