Description
The former shelter shed, located approximately 10 meters east of Sandfield Farmhouse, is a structure that has been converted into a cart shed and stable/coachhouse. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some later alterations.
The exterior features a 5-bay design, with some rubble on the rear and returns, while the front right side, which serves as the stable, is constructed of brick. The roof is gabled and covered with plain tiles. Inside, the roof trusses are sawn, with two fishbone trusses, one of which includes queen posts, a collar, and principals that extend over the purlins. Iron bolts are used on the king posts, and the right end of the building has a brick hearth that was part of the former stable.
The shelter shed is part of a farmstead group that includes Sandfield Farmhouse.
