Description

The Ocean Chinese Restaurant, located at 71A High Street, Henley-in-Arden, occupies what was originally two houses. These date to the late 17th century and were subsequently refaced in the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a gabled roof covered in old tile, and brick stacks at the rear. The building originally had a 2 plus 2-unit layout.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a four-window front. Number 71 features an entrance to the right of centre, with a doorcase incorporating a fluted frieze with paterae and a consoled dentilled pediment over a six-fielded-panel door, two panels of which are glazed. This entrance is flanked by windows with brick flat arches over 8/8 sash windows in wide, flush frames. Number 71A has a 20th-century shop front with small-paned bow windows. The first floor of 71A has three windows with 8/8 sash windows in moulded frames, and a single window to the right end with a 6/6 horned sash. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
