Description

No. 83 and 83A on High Street in Henley-in-Arden is a house dating from the 16th or 17th century, with later alterations. The building features a timber frame that has been re-fronted with painted brick, topped by a gabled old tile roof that includes a brick stack at the rear and a lateral stack at the front. It has a three-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic, displaying a three-window range.

The exterior includes a single-brick first-floor sill course and a dentilled brick cornice at the top. The entrance is located at the left end, set in a porch with a hipped end, featuring a window with a two-light casement and a return light to the right. There is a throughway to the left of the center with an irregular lintel above paired plank doors in a hipped porch. The central entrance has a 20th-century stable-type door, with a bay window to the right that has 20th-century small-paned glazing, both situated under a hipped pentice. To the right, there is a window with a two-light casement, along with similar casements in three gabled half-dormers. The right end of the building has exposed wall studs, showing the ends of the front and return rails. At the rear, there are double-gabled single-storey wings that project beyond the right return, with an entrance facing the front.

The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have exposed beams. No. 83 is also referred to as "The Old Shop."
