Description
The Blue Bell Public House is a public house located in Henley-in-Arden, dating from the late 15th century with later alterations. It features a timber-frame structure with plastered infill, some roughcast brick, and an old tile roof with brick stacks at the rear. The building has a single-unit plan with a cross-wing and a carriageway to the left end, which has an attic above.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The plastered section to the right shows an exposed wall plate, while the left wing has exposed wall studs and a jettied gabled first floor with close-studded framing. The tall carriage entrance at the left end has close studding on the returns and in the attic, which features flat joists. The entrance, located to the right of centre, has a 20th-century plank door set in an architrave, and the carriageway entrance is flanked by paired plank gates.
On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with small-paned casements, one on the left with a cornice and the other on the right with a flat roof that extends as a canopy over the entrance. The first floor includes a gabled dormer with a three-light small-paned casement, a four-light transomed projecting window with leaded glazing in the cross-wing, and a two-light small-paned casement with an iron opening casement in the attic to the left. There are brick wings at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
