Description

St Loes is a house located on High Street in Henley-in-Arden, dating from the 15th or 16th century. It features a timber-frame construction with plastered infill and some brick on the left return. The roof has been renewed with tiles and includes a brick end stack and rear stacks. The building has a five-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a five-bay range.

The exterior includes a plastered plinth and mostly renewed sill plate, with a jettied first floor supported by flat joist ends and brackets. There are two entrances, each with battened plank doors set in moulded frames. The windows are leaded casements from the 18th century or later, with iron opening casements. The ground floor has a variety of window configurations, including a 3-light window in the first bay, a 2-light transomed window to the left of the entrance in the second bay, a 4-light window and a high-set light in the third bay, a 2-light transomed window to the right of the entrance in the fourth bay, and a combination of 2- plus 3-light windows in the fifth bay. The first floor features a 2-light window, two 2-light transomed windows, and three 3-light windows. The close-studded framing on the first floor consists of three bays with two narrower bays to the left, and there are arched braces in the first, third, and fifth bays.

The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have a rear lean-to outshut. It is recorded to contain two wide fireplaces from the 17th century on the rear wall, with the right fireplace featuring an original plastered brick shaft. Additional interior details include chamfered beams, first-floor partitions with cambered ties and arched braces, and some ex-situ linenfold and late 16th-century panelling in the rear outshut.
