Description
1 and 2 The Green is a pair of houses that were originally a post office and cottages, dating from the 17th century with later alterations and 20th-century additions. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill, partly rebuilt in the center, and brick on the right end. It has a gabled thatched roof with a brick axial stack and lateral stacks, arranged in a three-unit plan with a cross-wing.
The exterior is single storey plus attic and has a three-window range with the cross-wing on the right. The entrance, located to the right of center, has a plank door set in a moulded frame, with a similar entrance at the end of the outshut on the right return. The fenestration is varied, featuring 20th-century renewed casements throughout, including three eyebrow dormers. The cross-wing has a single attic casement and an exposed tie beam and collar roof truss. The right return includes a lateral stack and a 20th-century brick catslide outshut with a window to the gable, which extends as a rear wing. The interior has not been inspected.
