Description
The Vicarage in Newbold Pacey is a building dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in 1720 and a 19th-century wing. It is constructed of brick laid in English bond on a stone plinth up to sill level, and features steeply pitched hipped and gabled slate roofs with two large brick cross-axial stacks, an end stack, and a rear stack. The building has a double-depth plan with a later cross-wing on the left side.
The exterior consists of two storeys plus an attic and has a six-window range. The central entrance features a rubbed brick flat arch with a key block and a moulded door frame leading to a four-panel door, which has two flush panels. There is a pedimented wood trellis porch. The ground-floor windows have rubbed brick flat arches with key blocks above 3/6 sash windows, with a blocked window on the right end and a two-light casement on the left. The first floor has five windows with two-light leaded casements made of crown glass, a blocked window on the right end, and three gabled roof dormers with leaded casements also made of crown glass.
The 19th-century cross-wing on the left end has a single-storey addition at the front, featuring a segmental-headed first-floor window with a three-light casement. The right return has a four-window range, a parapet with aprons and stone coping, rusticated quoins, and windows with moulded sills and aprons, along with rubbed brick flat arches and key blocks over 6/6 sash windows.
The interior is noted for having panelled rooms and a richly balustered staircase. The attached side walls to the front garden extend approximately 60 meters along the frontage and include a gate and piers with ashlar finials, as well as a ramped-up section to the left of centre. The wall ramps up to the right end over a segmental-headed entrance with a plank door, all featuring ashlar coping.
