Sutton Mill And Millhouse

Sutton Mill and Millhouse is a mill and millhouse dated 1844, with earlier origins and an early 19th-century house. It is constructed of red brick and coursed squared stone, topped with Welsh slate roofs and featuring stone and brick ridge and end stacks. The building has stone coped gables and consists of a main range with a crosswing to the left that is part of both the house and the mill.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window main range. The left side features a 16-pane sash window, while the right side has two 3-light casements. The sash window is adorned with a stone flat arch, and the casements have brick cambered arches. On the ground floor, there is a part-glazed door located to the centre right within a gabled porch, along with a similar 3-light casement to the right and additional doors and casements to the left. The crosswing contains 2-light casements, and the left side of the crosswing has a door and more 2-light casements.

The rear of the building features 16-pane sashes, a 20th-century French door, and 20th-century windows in the lower crosswing section above the waterwheel. There are three roof dormers. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to contain an iron breast-shot internal waterwheel, an overhung iron pitwheel, an iron wallower, and an iron spur-wheel. Additionally, there are iron bed plates for millstones with two pairs of millstones, an iron crown-wheel with a layshaft for sack hoist drive, and a slack-belt type sack-hoist.
