Description

The Mill including Mill House is a watermill and millhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century, possibly incorporating older elements. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and some marlstone-ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh-slate roof and rubble stacks. The building is arranged in an L shape, consisting of two storeys plus an attic and a two-storey mill range.

The front of the taller house range features three windows with three-light casements and a 19th-century wooden porch that serves as the main entrance. The roof has two half dormers and two stacks, extending to the left over part of the mill range, which projects forward next to the porch. This section has a loft door on the first floor above a stable door and a casement. The lower part of the mill includes two two-light casements on the first floor, along with another stable door and a casement on the ground floor. This section also has an ashlar plinth that contains the arch of the tailrace.

The left end wall features a doorway that provides access to the waterwheel and includes an iron wheel for traction-engine drive. The rear of the house has a short two-storey wing and a flanking outshut. Inside, one ground-floor room of the house has a chamfered spine beam and a large chimneybreast. The mill contains an overshot iron waterwheel and a complete wooden gear that operates one pair of stones. The taller part of the mill section has the remains of a bakehouse. The mill still retains its water supply and may be operational.
